Kentucky Issues reduced down to a BINGO card (April 2, 2026)
Just when you think people can't go any lower, I found out I was wrong. The last day of the session before our veto period began, multiple homemade bingo cards were spotted on the desks of republican house members in our chamber, where we debate and pass bills. What was on them is shocking.
I guess they think the issues that my democratic colleagues and I talk about and fight for each day are funny to them. Words and phrases that mirror so many people's lives and challenges right now, such as " poor, working families, gun violence, LGBTQ", and the one that I am known to talk about is being a "former foster parent". The level of disrespect for the Kentuckians we represent is mind-boggling.
It was while I was asking questions on the changes the Senate made to the house budget we were voting on, that I decided to let my colleagues know I was aware of the disrespectful game they were playing. While I was asking serious questions about how cuts to the Department of Community Based Services would affect social workers, families, and children in foster care, they were treating this like a game. Multiple media outlets and social media have picked up this story.
I will return to Frankfort on April 14th for the last two days of session to pass remaining bills and vote on to uphold or override any bill the Governor vetoed while we were out. April 15th is known as "sine die" and it is the last day we are constitutionally allowed to be in session.
